Hold a Private or Commercial Certificate
Before beginning your multi-engine training, you’ll need a valid Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot Certificate. The rating will be added onto your existing certificate.
Complete Ground Instruction
You'll start with ground training covering multi-engine aerodynamics, system operations, performance calculations, and emergency procedures , everything you need to understand how twin-engine aircraft operate.
Fly with a Qualified Multi-Engine Instructor
You'll complete several hours of dual instruction in a twin-engine aircraft, focusing on normal operations, engine-out procedures, VMC demonstrations, and emergency scenarios to build confidence and competence.
Pass the Checkride
Once training is complete, you'll take a practical test with an FAA examiner, which includes an oral exam and a flight test to demonstrate your ability to safely operate multi-engine aircraft.
