Flight school near Tallassee: plan trips, not just lessons

Blue Skies Above does not have a Tallassee location. Tallassee students train at Lanett Municipal Airport (7A3), 4445 51st Ave SW, Lanett, Alabama, and plan their lessons around the drive.

The risk with a longer commute is the gap between lessons. When weeks pass without flying, part of the next lesson goes to review, and you pay for that time. Our guide to whether driving to a pilot course adds to your cost shows how to count your trips.

How Tallassee students keep a steady pace

Weekend blocks make the drive easier to repeat. A Saturday lesson and a Sunday lesson meet the low end of the two to three lessons a week we recommend, and booking both days gives you a backup when weather moves a lesson. Right now our weekend schedule has open slots.

  • Weekend blocks with a backup day
  • No minimum billing

Use weeknights in Tallassee for ground study

Ground study can happen at home. An hour of reading on a weeknight means your airport time goes to flying instead of explaining concepts in the airplane. Our guide to making the most of your ground lessons has study routines that fit around a job.

Matthew is an excellent flight instructor with a vast knowledge and aptitude for flying. The fact that he has the heart of a teacher is the reason I learned so well with him and therefore successfully earned my PPL. Out of the several CFI’s I had during my training, he was the one that I learned the most from. Unlike some CFI’s, he was actually very concerned at making sure I was learning instead of just trying to make money off of me. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to fly. Hopefully, I will get to earn some more ratings with him in the future.

Great flight school, with in house maintenance and pretty good DPE wait times. I got my private here and currently working on my instrument and my experience has been nothing but great. It feels less like a school and more like a family, where everyone knows each other and works well with each other. The owner/instructors are more than willing to work with you regarding availability scheduling and training frequency. Not just a flight school, you can also rent aircrafts by yourself which has helped me tremendously in getting real world flight experience whether solo or with friends. I would highly recommend this school if you are looking for flexibility, and training at a relatively low traffic airport, in close proximity to other great aerodromes for training.

I booked a Discovery flight for my grand daughter who is interested in someday getting her pilot’s license. The staff at blue skies were all wonderful. They patiently answered all of our questions and my granddaughter is now convinced that she definitely wants to learn to fly. She commented after her flight that “she’s never driven a car or a boat but she’s flown a plane”. I would certainly recommend the discovery flight and blue skies to anyone.
